She is an accomplished author and a talented actor although she is arguably better known these days for her high-profile party cakes business run from a Chelsea shop since 1990. But in an unexpected move, Jane Asher is joining forces with the budget retailer Poundland to launch an exclusive bakeware collection in spring 2014.
Poundland's first celebrity collaboration follows the rising popularity of home baking in the UK triggered nordstorm by TV programmes such as the BBC's The Great British Bake-off which has led to one in seven Britons baking more than twice a week. Jane Asher's range of bakeware for Europe's biggest single price discount retailer will be sold in its 490-plus shops in the UK and Ireland. Most items will cost 1 but the range will include multipacks like three wooden spoons or six silicon cases for 1.
Asher, who has acted since childhood , is a passionate baker with her own shop , where elaborate bespoke cakes can cost hundreds of pounds, and several books on baking to her name. She said: "I'm delighted to be working with Poundland on developing this fantastic new bakeware range and have designed, tested and worked with every single product."
"It is also an economical way of making great quality breads, cakes and pies but of course the cost of all the equipment can be an issue for some. In my new Poundland range this will no longer be a problem as all the baking essentials are covered nordstorm and offer amazing value for money. The range is very pretty, nordstorm and comes in four pastel colours which can be mixed and matched. I've also included six quick, easy and delicious cake mixes."
"We're extremely pleased to be offering our customers an affordable entry point into the hugely popular home baking trend. For well under 10 they will be ready to bake with Poundland and we're confident that combining the excitement of a bargain with the enthusiasm of baking is going to be a recipe for success."
